Solution - Nutrition
Under-nutrition and malnutrition is the first problem Joyce started solving.
She commenced a feeding program to minimise the irreversible damage that occurs in infants and children’s early development. Children were fed and given extra nutritional elements as required.
Joyce and her friends funded this from their own pocket.
As the school developed Lonnie & friends in Tasmania, Merryl & Graeme Blair and their friends in Victoria, started contributing.
In Zambia, a donation enabled the purchase of a 4 hectare block in the Kaloko area.
Immediately, crops and a few vegetables were grown.
Now a wider range of vegetables are grown, plus cattle and pigs are now farmed.
Excess of crops and livestock are sold to meet other costs.
This last harvest of maize was 2,750kgs (6063lbs) with a crop of 500kgs of groundnuts (the local name for peanuts.)
